Role Summary

The Manager Wide-Body Operations Maintenance is responsible for executing on the operations strategy for our Wide-Body Fleet at Alaska Airlines (AS). As a people leader, the Manager leads and establishes priorities for the team in the

execution of daily operations ensuing the efficiency and reliability of the Fleet. The role requires close collaboration with other departments, ensuring that all operational activities comply with safety regulations, company policies, and AS standards.

Key Duties

  • Lead team and establish priorities for all wide-body line maintenance operations, making critical decisions to uphold performance and safety commitments.

  • Influence across the division and collaborates with stakeholders in M&E, AOCS, and the NOC to ensure seamless operational readiness during schedule changes; proactively addressing challenges to maintain efficiency, reliability, and safety standards.

  • Analyze and forecast budgetary requirements and staffing needs to ensure comprehensive support for wide-body line maintenance operations, aligning resources with operational demands, efficiency goals, and long-term strategic objectives.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for wide-body line maintenance operations, focusing on optimizing performance, and enhancing operational efficiency.

  • Define and prioritize critical maintenance tasks to align with operational goals, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources and the timely completion of all maintenance activities.

  • Develop comprehensive business cases and oversee the procurement of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to equip the workforce with the resources required to perform maintenance activities effectively, ensuring alignment with operational demands and strategic objectives.

  • Partners with Safety Leaders to design and implement impactful safety initiatives that prioritize, compliance, and risk mitigation, foster a culture of safety while ensuring reliable and efficient operations.

  • Advises the On Call Maintenance Program Manager to establish, negotiate and manage line maintenance vendor contracts to ensure alignment with scheduled program requirements, emphasizing cost-effectiveness, reliability, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety rules and regulations while actively cultivating a culture of safety awareness among personnel.

  • Proactively communicate with the Director of Line Maintenance to provide timely updates on any issues affecting safety, quality, costs, or schedules during vendor maintenance.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.

  • Drive effective diversity, equity and inclusion practices to build a culture of belonging while actively supporting and executing on the company’s D&I initiatives, goals and commitments.

  • Shape culture of team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in Wide Body maintenance, or related area.

  • 2 years of leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Valid Airframe and Powerplant license.

  • Technical knowledge of maintaining Boeing 787 and/or Airbus A330 aircraft.

  • Valid driver's license and passport is required.

  • Extensive experience in budgeting, aircraft reliability, and production.

  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (both internal and external to Alaska) that drive mutually beneficial outcomes.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. or assigned location.

Preferred

  • Airline operations experience.

  • Experience in Wide Body line maintenance.

  • Understanding of AS maintenance program requirements.

Salary Range

$139,700 - $209,500 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
