Role Summary

This role is responsible for executing on the strategy for all Pilot Crew Scheduling processes, procedures, and applications, assuring that safety, compliance, and customer service are optimized at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, the Pilot Crew Scheduling Systems Manager leads and establishes priorities for the team to implement policies and procedures to support the administration and maintenance of crew scheduling software with a focus on Preferential Bidding System (PBS) for pilot scheduling department and partners with Labor Relations to assist in grievance resolution and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations.

Key Duties

  • Lead team to establish priorities of compliance and safety with all scheduling functions and regulations.

  • Execute strategy to develop and maintain high level communication plans for Crew Scheduling systems and business resiliency solutions, with 12+ month horizon.

  • Drive audits to provide up to date, Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) compliant training material/content for new schedulers for annual recurrent training, new processes/procedures, changes to CBA and system updates.

  • Make decisions related to systems, processes and operational approaches to increase efficiencies, operational flexibility, and productivity with Crew Scheduling.

  • Influence across Flight Operations leadership team to align standards, department communication and coordination, policy, and procedures and provides critical analysis and recommendations to the Director of Crew Scheduling regarding the scheduling operation.

  • Collaborate with IT System and Project Managers to ensure that resources are available and product issues are resolved in a prioritized manner.

  • Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship cross divisionally and with union groups including Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) and Clerical Office and Passenger Service Employees (COPS).

  • Manage Crew Scheduling Trainers to ensure compliance with FAR 117 in association with other Network Operations Center (NOC) bridge members and Pilot Crews.

  • Represents Alaska Airlines Pilot Crew Scheduling department at various AAG meetings related to crew.

  • Owner of content and changes for Chapter

    • of the NOC Manual.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting the budget for approved initiatives.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team and time management.

  • Drive effective diversity, equity and inclusion practices to build a culture of belonging while actively supporting and executing on the company’s D&I initiatives and, goals and commitments.

  • Shape culture of team through action, presence, and reinforcement behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of aviation, airline operations, or equivalent experience.

  • 2 years of experience leading and mentoring teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of experience in lieu of the degree.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage small projects and support larger projects as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and collaboratively develop alternatives for resolution.

  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to keep track of many moving parts and spot conflicts early.

  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and comfortable with public speaking

  • Strong working knowledge of airline/inflight operations with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of Alaska, outside contractors, and regulatory authorities.

  • Strong organizational skills, confidence in decision-making, conflict management, and resiliency.

  • Ability and willingness to work in a high-pressure environment and be able to handle several projects and tasks simultaneously while delivering results.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings and 8, 10, 12-hour shifts.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Experience in the development of policy and procedures.

  • Experience partnering with Union groups and Union leadership.

  • Knowledge of data analytics, analysis, and reporting.

Salary Range

$90,400 -- $135,600 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
