Role Summary

The HR Business Partner is responsible for providing general HR support to clients across the company. As an individual contributor, this role is responsible for providing guidance on a variety of complex HR programs that support the people strategy: organizational effectiveness, leadership development, engagement, workforce and succession planning, performance management, and training in support of a high-performance culture. This role will work closely with the Employee Relations, Legal, Labor, and Compliance teams to promote equity, company values, and accountability in the workplace.

Key Duties

  • Provides advisement and consultation for a variety of HR-related and cross functional initiatives, including development and implementation of company-wide people programs, organizational design, leadership coaching, succession planning, and performance management.

  • Collaborates with the Employee Relations team, Legal, Labor and Union Representatives, to solve challenging workplace issues.

  • Applies working knowledge of HR best practices and Alaska’s People Policies to field HR-related inquiries; interprets policy and procedures as needed.

  • Serves as a liaison between assigned business group and HR functional areas. Proactively maintains an open line of communication with managers and employees on HR service-related issues.

  • Partners with Senior HR Business Partners on job support, including job descriptions, job offer analysis, and changes to jobs.

  • Provides compensation support including salary planning, changes to job descriptions, promotions, and job re-leveling.

  • Analyzes root causes of individual employee or collective workgroup issues and recommends solutions.

  • Makes recommendations on team processes and procedures and participates on project teams or HR teams as needed or for development purposes.

  • Functions as a thought partner with the business to increase awareness and understanding of DEI as a critical business imperative and influences change with people focused goals and objectives that is in alignment with the company’s DEI goals for a more equitable future. Partners with other HR leaders and Alaska leadership to foster engagement, create a great place to work, and to provide a hassle-free and world-class experience to internal clients, employees, candidates, and other stakeholders.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in Human Resources or related area.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • General knowledge of performance management, employee practices, compensation, benefits and rewards.

  • Knowledge of employment law and employee relations.

  • Innovative, apolitical, resilient, fact-based, and a creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict.

  • Experience managing processes and projects.

  • A proven ability to work independently and to prioritize competing priorities.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.

  • Experience in a variety of HR functional areas (generalist, employee relations, recruiting, etc.).

  • Compensation knowledge or experience.

Salary Range

$74,400 -- $111,600 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

$78,120 - $117,180

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
