Role Summary

The Flight Operations Instructional Designer II is responsible for developing solutions to analyze, design, and develop Alaska Airlines’ computer-based (CBT), instructor-led (IL) ground training, and flight training lessons. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve and support flight operations instructional design and training activities for Alaska Airlines (AS).

Key Duties

  • Applies instructional design techniques and methodologies to design and develop AS computer-based (CBT) and instructor-led (IL) ground training general topics lessons.

  • Exercise judgment to design and develop AS flight training lessons in accordance to regulatory requirements.

  • Provides ground-training instruction for Indoctrination (general and operations topics) classes for AS pilots and the flight training department.

  • Develops and administers special security training per National Security Act.

  • With limited direction from leadership create instructor guides for pilot ground and flight training events, ensuring courseware is current, the presentation media is operating correctly, and all required reference materials are available.

  • Partners with instructors in preparation for ground training activities.

  • Develop solutions and maintains courseware standards under changing technologies, IAW, FAA, manufacturer, and company guidance.

  • Collaborate with Flight Operations Training and other Flight Operations departments to ensure accuracy of training content and compliance with directives.

  • Support pilots with both content and technology questions to ensure completion of training objectives.

  • Performs assigned instructional systems designer (ISD) project management responsibilities. Responsible for process implementation, development and supervision of Learning Management System (LMS). Troubleshoots LMS failures and discrepancies, providing technical support and training to LMS users.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in instructional design and training delivery.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Computer skills utilizing CBT authoring and graphic software.

  • Demonstrated ability to become a platform instructor for ground training topics.

  • Self-motivated with demonstrated problem-solving skills required.

  • Ability to work independently or as a team member for group projects.

  • Project Management experience.

  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Pilot, Dispatch, or Airframe & Powerplant license.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud, Lectora eLearning, Storyline and CornerStone software.

  • Multi-crew aircraft flight experience.

  • Multi-crew aircraft flight and/or ground instruction experience.

  • Experience “training the trainer”, with the ability to teach and/or create instructor guides for technical systems.

  • Knowledge of video filming/editing/producing.

  • Knowledge of classroom design principles and classroom technology integration.

  • Knowledge of flight training department curriculums.

  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS).

  • Basic understanding of aircraft systems theory, function, and operation.

Salary Range

$74,400 -- $111,600 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
