Role Summary
The Director Inflight Base Operations – California manages and motivates Alaska Airlines Inflight leadership team for all California Flight Attendant domiciles to ensure Flight Attendants provide superior customer service, uphold professional standards, support our commitment to safety, demonstrate good judgment, and perform their jobs as defined by company policy and the flight attendant manual. This Director implements operational plans to ensure their base location meets performance objectives and compliance guidelines and regularly evaluates facility plans to ensure optimum efficiency, productivity, and financial performance of the base. This Director also promotes a culture of continuous improvement while acting as a liaison to other operational teams to ensure effective alignment and best practices across the company. This individual will manage the planning, business, administrative, and engagement efforts for the Seattle Inflight Domicile by maintaining best-in-class service. This leadership role directs Inflight operations for Alaska Airlines across three (3) bases and two (2) brands.
Key Duties
Manages and motivates Alaska’s Inflight leadership team to ensure Flight Attendants provide superior customer service, uphold professional standards, support our commitment to safety, demonstrate good judgment, and perform their jobs as defined by company policy and the flight attendant manual (FAM).
Proactively influences operational outcomes, sets strategy, and develops and monitors action plans to achieve department goals with special emphasis on on-time performance (including timeline metrics), customer service standards, sick leave, and safety.
Cultivates team leadership and development by mentoring and developing direct reports.
Support employee engagement, care & belonging, , career succession and growth opportunities for Inflight Leaders.
Champions strong support for company and Inflight objectives, especially as it relates to change management.
Team Leadership & Development:
Mentors and develops direct and indirect reports to support merit-based advancement, strengthen the leadership pipeline, and foster career growth opportunities for all employees.
Supports employee engagement and growth.
Creates a culture where trust, support, accountability and respect are mutually inclusive.
Leads bi-monthly meetings for the Inflight leadership team to encourage consistency and provide the opportunity to talk through concerns and receive company updates.
Ensures timely and on-going communications with flight attendants highlighting important work-rule changes, new policies, and company objectives, and eliminates rumors and concerns.
Ensures communication between Flight Attendants and supervisory staff.
Maintains financial objectives through the divisional budgeting process and monthly reviews of all base and departmental budgets.
Maintains a working knowledge of Flight Attendant procedures, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and contractual requirements.
Participates in Flight Attendant selection and hiring process.
Partners with operational groups to achieve company goals and objectives.
Maintains an excellent working relationship with cross divisional frontline workgroups coupled with the flight attendant union (AFA) leadership through collaboration and trust.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required:
A minimum of 10 years of operational or airline experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience leading or mentoring teams.
High energy, positive, and executive-level presence, along with top-notch written and verbal communication, public speaking, influencing, and motivational skills.
Demonstrated ability to influence change and initiate actions that have strategic impact and drive a high-performance culture.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.
Strong track record effectively managing teams and experience developing and mentoring employees through engagement.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs of the staff and maintain an upbeat, positive, and can-do attitude.
Contract labor exposure.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum age of 21.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree.
Current or previous Inflight experience.
A minimum of 2 years of Flight Attendant experience.
Airport SIDA Badge Requirements
Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review theSIDA Badge Requirementsdocument for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.

Salary Range
$131,350 - $203,600 / year
Salary Details
The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
