Role Summary

The Sector Manager is a subject matter expert in the Network Operations Control Center (NOC) managing operations activities for Alaska Airlines and its subsidiaries. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgement and initiative for solutions pertaining to flight cancellations and flight delays. This includes business decision making oversite of all positions within the Network Operations Control Center including: Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Maintenance Control, Line Maintenance Planning, Network Operations Support and Centralized Load Planning to ensure the highest operational standards, uncompromising commitment to safety, accountability to process, and the development and execution of practical solutions that lead to a competitive edge.

Key Duties

  • Act as a subject matter expert to oversee and execute day-to-day operations and integrates divisional objectives to ensure operational excellence.

  • With minimal direction from leadership, exercise considerable judgment to provide briefings to senior management on performance trends, causes, and remedies.

  • Provides leadership to all CPA (Capacity Purchase Agreement) carriers to ensure they meet Alaska’s standards.

  • Apply knowledge of business continuity plans and executes them in all necessary situations.

  • Serves as the customer service advocate for the system representing Alaska and its customers and employees.

  • Monitor daily flight activity and determine best course of action for cancellations, upgrades, or downgrades that impact the fewest number of guests with the least negative impact to the operation.

  • Executes contingency plans and provides ongoing support and communication throughout the recovery.

  • Directs and support stations on situations to maintain operational continuity (e.g., aircraft damage, employee injury, employee discipline, hazmat issues/concerns, drug testing, enforcement of the customer service commitment plan and current security/FAA directives, etc.).

  • Develops and implements strategic, continuous improvement initiatives and processes, including anticipating and addressing irregular operations.

  • Continually evaluates operating philosophies to provide the best customer service while and maximizing revenue and aircraft utilization.

  • Maintains procedural/operational knowledge of stations system-wide.

  • Develops, facilitates, and provides leadership support to bargaining unit employees, with an emphasis on Alaska’s values and critical success factors. Utilizes technology, process improvement methodologies, and leadership skills to create new approach to improve performance.

  • Provides operational performance updates to Network Operations Directors as needed.

  • Provides leadership and direction to all stations to ensure high standards and performance are maintained.

  • Contributes to a team environment that fosters an open exchange of ideas and information.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills


  • 4 years of relevant station, cargo, NOC or call center operations experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of FAA policies and procedures.

  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and provide independent judgment and good decision-making.

  • Proven ability to use tact in communicating with others, with the ability to constructively resolve problems.

  • Ability and willingness to work rotating 24/7 shifts (e.g., holidays, weekends, or non-traditional hours).

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.


  • 2 years in supervisory position.

  • Proven track record of effectively managing teams, motivating employees and enhancing group dynamics.

  • Strong knowledge of Sabre / Image.

  • Strong skills with Microsoft platform.

  • Knowledge of AS system regulations, company policy, procedures, and security directives.

  • Highly motivated and interested in expanding one’s knowledge and experience within Alaska Airlines.
