Role Summary

The Principal Data Governance Program Manager is the sole subject matter expert in Data Governance. As an individual contributor, this role defines long-term strategy for data governance to manage the information life cycle effectively. This role will establish and lead the Data Governance Council by identifying Data Stewards across the company, driving cross-company collaborative decision making, creating alignment with tools and teams using data securely. Additionally, this role will write standards and policies for Data Governance for guiding the development of data science systems, ITS, engineering and product standards based on business plans and long-term strategies, while working in an agile environment.

Key Duties

  • As the lead subject matter expert in Data Governance, define scope and priorities for developing, deploying and/or improving data management standards, policies, and processes enhancing the quality and completeness of the organization’s data.

  • Identify business groups for Data Governance participation and collaborate with the multiple teams across Alaska Airlines.

  • Collaborate with the Data Governance engineer to implement and execute the above policies, standards and priorities across Alaska’s environment and in-scope business groups.

  • Collaborate with the enterprise architecture team to create architecture, support design, implementation, and delivery of enterprise Data Governance solutions, ranging from various initiatives – Data Governance, Data model, Data integration/movement, Data Catalogue, Data Quality to name a few.

  • Define key risks for data management and ensure compliance with related policies, roles and responsibilities and standards.

  • Lead the Data Council and Data Owners across business units to oversee adoption of the data governance practices.

  • Maintain overall accountability for the Data Governance program, inclusive of communication, stakeholder involvement, metrics and reporting, working group activities, conveying business value recognized through governance-facilitated activities.

  • Collaborate with relevant teams such as InfoSec, Enterprise Architecture, Analytics Transformation, and Internal Audit and promote key data governance deliverables/assets, including data policies, data standards and data management roles and decision frameworks.

  • Design and own future state concept of operations through the development of business process models and data flow diagrams.

  • Coordinate existing processes and teams, and define best processes and patterns including Records Information Management, annual attestation process, access management requirements, data taxonomy and tagging. Identify gaps and mitigation plans. Experience in Agile development methodologies.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 7 years of experience in working as a data governance lead in a global company in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Strong bias for action.

  • Experience in execution as well as strategy in the Data Governance space.

  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.

  • Strong project leadership and management skills to lead organizational change.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present to a target audience.

  • Detail orientated.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Proven management/supervisory experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • CISSP, CIPP and/or PMP certification.

Salary Range

$123,500 - $197,500 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
