Role Summary

The Financial Analyst I solve finance solutions which ensure timely and accurate preparation and record keeping of debt, lease, and credit facility activities for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role focuses on the day-to-day oversight of payments, reporting, and accounting related to the company’s debt and lease portfolios, as well as supporting other technical analyses across a wide variety of finance, fleet and treasury-related subjects and projects.

The Financial Analyst II is responsible for developing solutions to treasury and finance processes at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve the day-to-day oversight of the company’s debt and lease portfolios, supports ongoing liquidity and balance sheet metric forecasting, and provides analytical support of a wide variety of critical finance, fleet, and treasury-related subject and projects. This role requires an inquisitive self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and ability to build strong cross-divisional internal relationships.

The Senior Financial Analyst is a subject matter expert in Treasury analytics and business support for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions for long-term Treasury and Finance strategy, including supporting the execution of the company’s fleet plan and capital allocation and hedging policies and provides recommendations to address a wide variety of critical Finance, Fleet, and Treasury-related subjects and projects.

Key Duties

Financial Analyst I

  • Administers portfolio of aircraft debt, operating leases, and credit facilities:

  • Maintains accurate records and forecasts of financial obligations

  • Processes payments in accordance within established deadlines

  • Validates wire activity per established fraud control processes

  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of all financial reporting / compliance obligations

  • Validates and processes daily shareholder return activities in accordance with established strategy.

  • Monitor’s airline industry credit condition, including thorough knowledge of rating agency assessments/frameworks, and credit events/trends.

  • Maintains financial reporting and audit documentation to ensure compliance with all internal audit and SOX requirements.

  • Works with team to accurately forecast, analyze, and/or consolidate information related to cash flow obligations, balance sheet metrics, and non-operating income/expense.

  • Prepares monthly reports for accounting and financial reporting to support financial closing process and serves as liaison with internal and external audit teams for all fleet/finance activities.

  • Provides input into the continuous enhancement of reports and processes to improve internal controls, gain efficiency, and reduce costs.

  • Performs ad-hoc analyses and duties as assigned.

Financial Analyst II

  • Takes initiative to develop solutions for the portfolio of aircraft debt, operating leases, and credit facilities.

  • Manages the execution of validations and processes for the daily shareholder return activities in accordance with established strategy.

  • Takes initiative to develop solutions to treasury and finance processes and problems.

  • Administers finance professional concepts and methodologies to make recommendations related to internal and external financing/fleet transactions and audit requests.

  • Trains the team in monitoring the airline industry credit condition, including thorough knowledge of rating agency assessments/frameworks, and credit events/trends.

  • Develops solutions to monitor and update financial reporting and audit documentation to ensure compliance with all internal audit and SOX requirements.

  • With limited direction from manager, works independently to accurately forecast, analyze, and/or consolidate information related to cash flow obligations, balance sheet metrics, and non-operating income/expense.

  • Creates and influences cross functionally on monthly reports for accounting and financial reporting to support financial closing process and serves as liaison with internal and external audit teams for all fleet/finance activities.

  • Makes recommendations and implements the continuous enhancement of reports and processes to improve internal controls, gain efficiency, and reduce costs.

Senior Financial Analyst

  • Applies deep knowledge in financial analysis to provide modeling and business support with respect to ROIC, fleet planning, capital structure, capital spending, cash forecasting, fuel hedging, financing, credit/financial metrics, return of capital to shareholders, and other Treasury matters.

  • Proactively monitors airline industry financial condition and credit events/trends and identify and clearly communicates strategic financial opportunities for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

  • Administers portfolio of aircraft debt and operating leases, and credit facilities.

  • Conducts analysis and develops recommendations in support of financing activities, including cash flow forecast modeling, economic analysis and negotiation of new loan/lease agreements, and evaluating alternative sources of funding.

  • Executes the company’s fuel and interest rate hedging programs, including contract administration, placing trades, program reporting, evaluating financial derivative instruments, analysis of strategic direction, and working with external hedging counterparties. Includes involvement in negotiation of hedging contracts and compliance with Dodd-Frank.

  • Develops and manages Treasury-related budgets, tracking performance and effectively communicating key drivers to internal stakeholders.

  • Prepares monthly reports for accounting and financial reporting to support internal and external closing process.

  • Drives process improvement and process documentation to ensure maintenance in accordance with internal audit and SOX requirements.

  • Influences cross-functionally and partner with Network Planning, Legal, Accounting/Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, FP&A, and M&E on cross divisional projects, including executive and board level projects and presentations.

  • Cultivates relationships with external customers/partners including aircraft manufacturers, worldwide banking and leasing partners, capital providers, and rating agencies.

  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Financial Analyst I

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or accounting, or related area, or two years of experience in analytics and/or business intelligence in Treasury, Finance, or related area, in lieu of this degree.

  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and investing fundamentals.

  • This role requires an inquisitive self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and ability to build strong cross-divisional internal relationships.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, particularly related to financial modeling.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance priorities.

  • Ability to understand and breakdown complex ideas to support decision making.

  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently with limited supervision.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Financial Analyst II

Required

  • 2 years of experience working with analytics and/or business intelligence in Treasury, Finance, or related discipline.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or accounting, or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and investing fundamentals.

  • This role requires an inquisitive self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and ability to build strong cross-divisional internal relationships.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, particularly related to financial modeling.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and investing fundamentals.
