Role Summary
The Senior User Experience Researcher is a subject matter expert in the discipline of user experience (UX) research for Alaska’s e-commerce product teams. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions associated with UX research activities, gaining strategic insights in order to influence the direction of digital products in collaboration with e-commerce product leaders and stakeholders across the company.
Key Duties
Act as a subject matter expert in the design and user experience of digital products, leveraging qualitative and quantitative guest insights.
With minimal direction from leadership, exercise considerable judgment to make decisions associated with UX research activities to drive e-commerce product strategy.
Lead and conduct generative and foundational as well as evaluative research and create design frameworks and experience maps.
Facilitate product discovery kickoffs and experience mapping activities to ensure the right problem is being solved, gaps are identified, and the right teams are involved at proper time in the product lifecycle.
Make product recommendations to Alaska’s senior leaders based on UX research findings.
Build partnerships and working agreements with teams and leaders across the company.
Guide product teams on UX research, user-centered design and design thinking/innovation best practices.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
4 years of experience working in the UX industry or related.
Bachelor’s degree in UX research, human-centered design, industrial design or related field of study, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Experience leading and conducting generative and foundational research and creating design frameworks and experience maps.
Experience in integrating qualitative and quantitative insights and other points of view to drive forward product strategy.
Experience working with senior leadership and facilitating workshops with them.
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to think beyond the task at hand.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
2 years of experience working in industries governed by complex rules, regulations and processes (e.g., transportation, healthcare, legal, financial services).
Experience in e-commerce.
Strong portfolio showcasing at least 4 examples of generative research that impacted product definition and strategy.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) to enhance both guest and employee satisfaction.
Active listener who values diverse perspectives and fosters an inclusive environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to drive outcomes in the best interest of the company.
Ability to establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with other teams and workgroups.
Experience teaching UX research and user-centered design within companies and in academic settings.
Experience mentoring and coaching UX researchers and designers.
Experience working with university corporate affiliate programs.

Salary Range
$115,350 - $173,050 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
