Role Summary

The Senior Analyst, Accounting Operations is a subject matter expert in global accounts payable activities in support of Alaska Air Group (AAG). As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in complex accounts payable activities and provides primary support to ensure vendors are paid timely and accurately in a compliant manner.

Key Duties

  • Acts as a subject matter expert in the procure to pay process.

  • Manages monthly journal entries for various transactions in accordance with department policies and procedures.

  • Prepares complete and accurate reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and monthly account balance fluctuation analyses.

  • Works with 3rd party vendors and internal team(s) on statement audits, researching payment anomalies found and making corrections.

  • Leads vendor relations efforts, creating and maintaining positive relationships with vendors.

  • Partners with the management team to analyze problems and recommend solutions by applying advanced knowledge and experience.

  • Mines data from systems to create reporting on metrics, performance, KPIs, etc. and conducts ad-hoc analyses and reporting in support of accounting operations initiatives.\Acts as system administrator expert for tools specific to accounting operations.

  • Leads workload distribution efforts.

  • Exercises considerable judgement to identify and contribute to the prioritization of process improvement projects.

  • Guides and supports accounting specialists with questions and training issues and makes recommendations to resolve business and process challenges.

  • Prepares and supports weekly, annual, and ad hoc auditing requests.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in procure to pay with an emphasis in accounts payable, accounting, or related area.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, summarize complex data, and make impactful business recommendations with minimal supervision.

  • Driven self-starter, focused on taking initiative and maintaining a high level of professionalism.

  • Demonstrated history of strong project management and organizational skills, able to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects to completion.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly resolve issues and explain complex concepts to diverse audiences, including executive leadership.

  • Proven ability to identify improvement opportunities and lead the design, development, documentation, and testing of accounts payable and accounting operations processes.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), with advanced expertise in Excel for developing analyses and reports.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Airline industry experience.

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SOX, and internal controls.

  • Peoplesoft, Tableau, banking experience.

  • Systems implementation experience.

  • Policy maintenance and enforcement experience.

Salary Range

$82,950 -- $124,450 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
