The Team

Alaska Airlines is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to join the Analytics and Strategy Team. This team supports workgroups by applying advanced analytics on large and diverse datasets to predict operational performance and to craft optimal business strategies over a broad portfolio of initiatives.

Role Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst works in a fast-paced, high-exposure team whose responsibilities include data analysis, demand modeling and research, optimization, project management, and solution design/delivery. The BI team will translate business intelligence strategy into advanced analytical experiments and models that blend data sources for creative insights into business problems and to align performance with the company’s strategic goals, detailed action plans, key performance indicators, and progress metrics. The team also develops and implements systems and technology to produce decision support tools that enable leaders and system practitioners to take strategic action. You must be able to develop visualizations grounded in statistical best practices that facilitate effective communication of results and key findings to internal and external customers.

Key Duties

  • In the intermediate level P2, you will use solid understanding of BI principles to analyze data, make recommendations for approach to problem solving and make recommendations for solutions to complex business problems.

  • In the senior level P3, as a subject matter expert in business intelligence, you will apply deep knowledge and use considerable judgement to determine the approach to ambiguous challenges, exercise considerable judgement to make decisions and influence across the company.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

P2 Intermediate Level

Required

  • 2 years analytical experience or a related area.

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or technical/engineering, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases.

  • Advanced SQL skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources and data blending.

  • Adept at dashboard design, charting, and report automation.

  • Experience with applied statistics and probability.

  • Ability to work well with multiple, diverse teams.

  • Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

P3 Senior Level

Required

  • 4 years of analytical experience or related area.

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or engineering, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases.

  • Advanced SQL skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources, data blending, and advanced database functions (e.g., database management functions).

  • Expert in visualization techniques, dashboard design, and decision support tools; experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.

  • Modeling proficiency in cluster analysis and linear regression.

  • Experience with descriptive and diagnostic statistics, sampling methodology, residuals analysis / ANOVA, and hypothesis / significance testing.

  • Ability to work well with multiple, diverse teams.

  • Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development.

  • Demonstrated project management experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
