Role Summary

The Duty Manager Simulator Ops is responsible for executing on the strategy for flight simulator operations at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, this role leads and establishes priorities for the team to improve and enhance communications continuity within the department by clearly targeting day-to-day operational issues and resolving simulator discrepancies and compliancy requirements.

Key Duties

  • Leads team and establishes priorities of a group of simulator engineers and technicians to improve and enhance communications continuity within the department by clearly targeting day-to-day operational issues and resolving simulator discrepancies and compliancy requirements in a prompt and safe manner.

  • Executes on strategy for slight simulator operations at Alaska Airlines.

  • Responsible for ensuring projects and updates are compliant with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, airframe manufacturer, flight simulator manufacturer guidelines and company policies.

  • Makes decisions and manages projects related to department initiatives, ensuring projects are on track and updates are communicated to engineers and technical staff.

  • Reviews and prioritizes work actions in a dynamic manner to evaluate and mitigate potential problems and resolve technical issues.

  • Responsible for monitoring, preparing and communicating multiple reports and technical issues across shifts to other simulator team members and management for the safety of the operation.

  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.

  • Shapes culture of team through action, presence and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in simulator engineering or related area.

  • 2 years of leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in electrical or avionics engineering or related field, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • High performance orientation, with the ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility.

  • Strong ability to rapidly understand and organize complexity and to come up to speed quickly on the use of complex systems and processes.

  • Exceptional integrity, with impeccable ethics in safety and compliance.

  • Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and leadership skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary Range

$133,100 - $199,650 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
